We are learning about Carbon Dioxide. Soda Stream uses carbon dioxide to make bubbles in water. It made a funny farting noise when we pushed the button.
Our wondering: What will happen when we add baking soda to water and lemon juice?
Result: Bubbles! Why? A chemical reaction between the acid (lemon juice) mixing with the alkaline (base-baking soda).

Jack feeling the carbon dioxide on his hand Everyone had to squeeze lemon juice into a cup using their hand to catch the pips. We needed equal amounts of lemon juice and water. |
Then we added baking soda to see what would happen.
Bubbles! Bubbles! and more bubbles! |
