Making Lemonade

In Science we are exploring chemical reactions.

We are learning about Carbon Dioxide. Soda Stream uses carbon dioxide to make bubbles in water. It made a funny farting noise when we pushed the button.

Our wondering: What will happen when we add baking soda to water and lemon juice?

Result: Bubbles! Why? A chemical reaction between the acid (lemon juice) mixing with the alkaline (base-baking soda).

Everyone had to squeeze lemon juice into a cup using their hand to catch the pips. We needed equal amounts of lemon juice and water.

Then came the taste test... Check out the facial expressions (we didn't add sugar)!

Then we added baking soda to see what would happen.
Bubbles! Bubbles! and more bubbles!
