Football Skills

We are very lucky to have some clever football players visiting our school. Today, we had our first session learning how to dribble.

Check out the photos to see some awesome dribbling of the ball. We played a fun game called 'Body Parts'. Everyone has to dribble the ball and when the teacher calls body part everyone stops and then the teacher calls a body part name (head, bottom, elbow, nose, back or knee) and everyone has to quickly put that body part on the ball. It was heaps of fun and we learnt a lot about how to dribble a ball with the inside or the outside of our foot!

Fractions and Capacity

We are learning about fractions or parts of a whole.

We are also learning about capacity or the amount something can hold.

We joined Room 5 for some exciting maths outside. We had awesome fun working in groups for "capacity relays". We had to fill containers so they were completely full, 1/2 full, 1/4 full and 1/3 full. Check out the photos to see children filling and checking their containers and working together in a team to complete the capacity relays.

Thank you Mrs Hill and Room 5 - we had so much fun doing maths with you!

PTA Calendar Art

All the children in Room have created a fabulous piece of art for the PTA Calendar Art Fundraiser.

The children worked very hard over several days on the art project to dye the background, draw, cut and colour the tree branches and create their owls out of coloured card. What an amazing effect all their hard work and perseverance had!

You can order cards, calendars and diaries with your child's art on them.
Cards and Calendars cost $10.00
Diaries cost $15.00

Order forms came home in book packets earlier this week. Orders need to be back to Mrs Ramsay by
Friday 1st November.

Pop into Room 6 to check out the amazing art!

Here are just a few samples

Thinking like scientists!

We are learning to think like scientists. Check out how we are learning to investigate.

Meaning of =

We are learning about the = sign.

We know that equals means the same as.

We had to problem solve some addition number sentences and match them up so we could put the = sign in the middle. Each side had to balance. Then we did an extra challenge with adding together and taking away problems.

Try it out: Which two number sentences go together?

Does 28+4=33-4 ?

28+4            33-4           37-5          23+6

Algebra - Patterns

We are learning about number  patterns.

Check out our cube patterns. We used skip counting to show the number pattern.

Analise problem solving
"The Dragon had 14 eggs and 7 nests. How many eggs go into each nest? The nests have to have the same number of eggs each."
2+2+2+2+2+2+2= 14 or 7 x 2 = 14
x means groups of

Bailey problem solving
"18 dragon eggs, 9 nests. How many eggs go into each nest?"
2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2+2=18 or 9 x 2 = 18

Rock Spelling

The Duck Dogs reading group are practicing their spelling words outside. We call it ROCK SPELLING because we make the words with alphabet rocks. Its a fun way to practice spelling outside on a sunny day.

Yellow rocks are vowels
Purple rocks are digraphs - two letters that make one sound
Green rocks are consonants
